The IAFF Haz/Mat department has training available for your departments for free. Below are two of these classes.
Emergency Response to Terrorism: Operations / ERT: Ops – (8 & 16-Hours) – need to deliver 27 classes prior to September 30, 2017.
The ERT: Ops courses are a one or two-day training program that focuses on emergency response to incidents involving WMDs. Participants are provided in-depth information related to chemical, biological, radiological/nuclear, and explosive/incendiary weapons, signs/symptoms, types of harm, and protective actions.
Emergency Response to Terrorism: Operations – Train the Trainer / ERT: Ops - TtT (24 Hours) – need to deliver 14 prior to September 30, 2017.
The TtT curriculum ensures that trainers selected to deliver the ERT: Ops course understand IAFF educational methodology procedures and demonstrate their ability to facilitate course content.
To request HazMat training, IAFF affiliates must provide a request letter signed by an IAFF local president and the fire chief. The letter should contain a brief explanation of the need for training in your area, a general timeline for delivery, the number of students and a contact person for course logistics, such as a training officer. Email requests to hazmat@iaff.org or call 202-737-8484 for more information.
